Health experts warn of deadly heat risk

By Nadhvi Irfan

Health experts have raised concerns over the ongoing extreme heat in Sri Lanka, warning it could lead to serious health issues or even death.

Dr. Nandana Dickmadugoda stressed that people with chronic illnesses, children, and the elderly are especially vulnerable and should avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.

He explained that high humidity caused by cloud cover intensifies discomfort and increases the risk of heatstroke.

The public is advised to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor work during peak hours, and use umbrellas or protective clothing when going outside.

Dr. Dickmadugoda also recommended drinking fluids like porridge, soup, tea, and oral rehydration solutions.
